Pupils at McVay were thrilled to see their teachers dancing and to discover that special guest Brutus Buckeye had joined them at their PRIDE assembly.

On Friday, August 30, McVay Elementary hosted its first assembly for the new school year.  These monthly gatherings bring everyone together to recognize Students of the Month, participate in games and school spirit activities, and review the values of “Pioneer PRIDE.”

The assembly offered some exciting surprises.  Brutus Buckeye showed up to honor the August Students of the Month and lead the whole school in enthusiastic chants.  Pupils also got to watch the debut of Old Town McVay, a parody music video created by Principal Jim Swain, Assistant Principal Jason Fullen, and Teacher Mike McClain.  The video, set to the tune of chart-topping Old Town Road, encouraged children to “Show our PRIDE at Old Town McVay” and “Embrace hard work each and every day.”  Halfway through the song, a flash mob of teachers started a choreographed dance that resulted in the entire school singing the song’s last chorus together.  To watch Old Town McVay, please visit https://tinyurl.com/oldtownmcvay.

All agreed that the lively assembly was a great way to kick off the new school year.
