McVay was the first Central Ohio elementary school to host a King Arthur Bread Company assembly six years ago.  The service learning project has since spread to other Westerville schools as well as many other districts in the area.  Paula Gray, who lives in Vermont, returned to McVay on January 30, to teach students how to make bread from scratch.  Math and science worked their way into the lesson, and each child went home with a kit containing yeast, flour, a dough scraper and a recipe for baking two loaves of bread.  They were instructed to enjoy one loaf, and share the other with someone in need.  Since the program’s inception some 25 years ago, King Arthur has given bread-baking lessons to more than 250,000 schoolchildren in 44 states.
