The Ohio Department of Education has approved two days in the Westerville City School District for professional development – September 12, 2014 and February 6, 2015.  Classes will not be held on these dates.

Jennifer Knapp, Director of Curriculum & Instruction Services, firmly believes that it is not possible to have a successful school district without the active involvement of parents, guardians, and caregivers, both at school and in the home.  “Whether prodding children to finish their homework, volunteering inside a classroom, or taking time during a busy schedule to address faculty and staff during conferences, parents and families drive what we do in our district,” she said.  “We thank them for their continued involvement with Westerville City Schools.”

This school year, on September 12 and February 6, teachers will participate in learning sessions, many of which will be led by Westerville educators who have demonstrated expertise in particular areas.  These full days of professional development are a valuable way for teachers to grow as instructors and a cost-effective way to learn from each other, identify best practices, and implement initiatives across the school district that have resulted in positive academic gains for pupils.

Knapp expressed her appreciation to parents for arranging supervision for their children on these days.  “I am grateful for their understanding of our need to grow professionally in order to best serve our students,” she concluded.
