Before the start of the lunch rush, Westerville South High School senior Curtis Wyglendowski claimed his spot in a booth along the side of the newly-renovated cafeteria, which opened its doors Wednesday.

The dining space now features new lighting, refinished floors and updated seating throughout the area.

“It looks amazing,” Wyglendowski said. “I feel like it’s a good flex space that could be used for multiple things.”

This school year, several buildings, including Westerville South, feature facility upgrades and new additions as part of the district’s first phase of a facilities master plan residents approved in 2019. They include:

  • Renovations and additions at Annehurst Elementary

  • Safety and security updates at Cherrington, Hanby, Huber Ridge, Mark Twain and Robert Frost elementary schools

In addition to the new cafeteria at Westerville South, the northeast and northwest wings of the first floor have been renovated and redesigned for specialty educational spaces such as art rooms, CTE/engineering spaces and special education units.
