URGENT: Westerville Schools now CLOSED Monday, March 16

Dear WCSD Staff and Families:

We have decided to close our schools on Monday, March 16, to all staff and all students. Our original plan was to use that last day we were permitted to be open as a day for students to receive final face-to-face communication from their teachers. New information has prompted us to reverse this decision and immediately close our schools through at least Sunday, April 5, 2020.

We have said all along that we intend to closely monitor new information and make decisions accordingly. While there are still no confirmed cases of coronavirus in our school community, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther today announced that there is now a confirmed case in central Ohio and community spread is expected. We will be announcing details next week about the district’s plan to provide meals to students during the days that our schools are closed.

Please continue to watch your email for important information from our district and your school. Email will be our primary means of communicating the most detailed information, but we also will continue to share other information through the web page established at www.wcsoh.org/covid19, as well as social media (https://www.facebook.com/WCSOH and http://twitter.com/WCSOH).

Emergency voice and text messages will be sent to the phone numbers you have registered in PowerSchool. In the case of our employees, these would be sent to the phone numbers you have on file with Human Resources.

Anyone who has not yet opted in to receive text messages is encouraged to use the cell phone(s) they have registered in PowerSchool to text Y to 67587. Once again, please be sure check your email regularly for important updates.

Sincerely,
Dr. John R. Kellogg
Superintendent
