Westerville Education Challenge (WEC) is celebrating a decade of Challenge Day programs by planting 5,000 daffodil bulbs at all three high school campuses today – Central, North and South.  To commemorate the 5,000 Westerville students this meaningful program has reached in the past 10 years, along with WEC and its visionary founder, the late Cindy Crowe, volunteers are expected to turn out in droves.

Challenge Day began in 2007 and has become a tradition in Westerville high schools.  The program occurs during the school day with 100 plus students at each building participating in a series of meaningful activities designed to address issues such as bullying, stereotypes and violence.  As the day progresses, participants get to know themselves and others, developing greater understanding, acceptance and new friendships.  By the end of the day, pupils feel empowered to speak out and make a positive difference in their lives at home, at school and in the community.

Challenge Day in Westerville City Schools this year will take place on November 13 at South; November 14 at North; and November 15 and 16 at Central.  Twenty-five to thirty caring adult volunteers are needed each day to serve as mentors and participants.

WEC has donated more than $70,000 to Westerville City Schools to support Challenge Day, along with grants for educators, and a new partnership with middle schools.  The organization credits much of its success to community and individual donors who have had the desire to show Westerville students that they are worth the investment.

WEC invites you to join them for its signature fundraising event, Rock This Town 80s Party, featuring live 80s band The Reaganomics.  This will take place on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Medallion Club in Westerville.
