Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund Awards $3,194 in Grants

The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation has announced the recipients of 10 grant awards totaling $3,194 to Westerville City Schools personnel for applications submitted this spring.  Recipients are:

• $250 to Erin Moehl, Westerville Central High School, to subsidize tuition for an OSU course through which she will study abroad in Havana, Cuba;

• $133 to Elizabeth Dalin, third grade teacher at Emerson Magnet School, to purchase books and supplies for an interdisciplinary study of Japan;

• $500 to Jennifer Hall, to pay for 4^th and 5^th grade students at Robert Frost Elementary to participate in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra LINK UP program;

• $480 to Catherine Stathulis at Westerville North High School, to purchase tickets for her Humanities students to attend a production by the Otterbein University Theatre department;

• $395 to Laura Wosiak and Joy Dietz, to purchase task boxes and locks to increase independence and inclusion for their multiple disability students;

• $175 to Lauren Sefton of Westerville South High School, to pay for college credit for a course in SIOP, to differentiate instruction for all students, but especially students with emotional challenges and students for whom English is a second language;

• $295 to Aislynn Valentine, Westerville South High School, to pay for costs associated with a field trip for her AP Environmental Science and Ecology students to Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park;

• $395 to Judith Gawelek, media specialist at Whittier Elementary School, to purchase a school-wide subscription to the PebbleGo Animals database, to allow primary students to conduct research safely and independently;

• $321 to April Hynes, fifth grade teacher at Mark Twin Elementary School, to purchase a class set of novels to promote a better understanding of challenges faced by refugees in the United States; and

• $250 to Sarah Painter, Special Education Transition Coordinator at Westerville North High School, to purchase materials for their clothing closet, which helps students succeed in school and in the work place.
