The Westerville City School District’s 14th Annual LEGO Competition transitioned to a virtual event due to school facilities being closed in April. The competition is open to elementary and middle school students from Westerville City Schools and St. Paul School. Competitors can build anything they want, as long as they design it themselves; No pre-packaged LEGO sets are permitted to be built.

Westerville North Academic Boosters (WNAB) sponsors the event, with proceeds benefiting the organization. Money raised by this year’s event was enough to fund two $500 scholarships for graduating Westerville North students. WNAB partnered with the Ohio LEGO User Group (OhioLUG) to provide a virtual event that enabled students to build their design and receive free online feedback from members of the OhioLUG midway through the event.

“We have heard numerous comments about how students enjoyed creating their builds while being stuck at home,” said WNAB’s Alan Pate. “The nature of the event enabled OhioLUG the opportunity to provide great feedback to students as they worked on their builds.”
