Students in the Mark Twain Elementary School Service Club, led by parent volunteer Melissa Rex, brought their families to lend a helping hand at the Marine Corps Family Support Community (MCFSC) packing night, which was held on Friday evening, March 10.  They wrote thank-you notes to men and women who are currently deployed, made St. Patrick’s Day cards for them, created quilt squares, and packed dozens of care packages.  The boxes contain travel sized personal care items, drink mixes, and snacks, all of which have been donated by groups such as schools, churches, nursing homes and local businesses.

The MCFSC non-profit started in 2003 by parents who met at a Parris Island graduation ceremony.  They wanted to support their sons and daughters and share information.  Sixteen years later, they still meet and support the military.  “MCFSC relies on our community for their generosity in supplying funds, goods and service hours,” said appreciative volunteer Cathy L. Noskowiak. “We always look forward to spending time with these students.”
