Westerville South sophomore Mattie, cast in the role of Wilbur the Pig, thrills his Mark Twain Elementary School audience as he runs through the crowd trying to escape.
For the past five years, student actors from Westerville South High School have hit the road with a traveling show, much to the delight of elementary school children in the district. This year’s production was a 30-minute version of Charlotte’s Web, the E.B. White story of a livestock pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charlotte writes messages praising Wilbur in her web in order to persuade the farmer to let him live.
The student-directed and produced performances took place the week before Winter Break at Hanby, Mark Twain, Wilder, Pointview, Robert Frost, and Cherrington elementary schools. All shows garnered rave reviews.
