Approximately 80 families attended Tuesday evening’s ESL Parent meeting held at Hawthorne Elementary School. This gathering was the second of five planned informational meetings for the 2014-15 school year.  Building on the theme of the first meeting, “Tools for Success in School,” this meeting focused on “Setting and Measuring Goals for Success.”  The key topics for discussion were PowerSchool, conferences, and parent groups to join.

Parent Council president Lisa Aucoin, along with representatives from several Westerville parent organizations, came to welcome ESL families to participate in groups.  Parent Council, in coordination with the Westerville Education Foundation, provided books for each family to take home.  John O'Connor of Kiwanas Club delivered five racks full of beautiful books for ESL students.  Each family also received a gift bag that reflected the evening’s theme of goals, and three lucky families won raffle prizes, likewise built on goals: “Get Organized,” “Get Healthy,” and “Get Active.”

The next meeting will take place on December 3, with the location to be determined.  The theme for the third meeting is “Community Connections.”  Free supervised childcare, interpreters, and gifts for attendance will be offered again.
