Given the success of last year’s inaugural Parent Prep workshop series, Westerville City School District (WCSD) officials are finalizing details for a multi-day, all-virtual Parent Prep event later this fall.

“Although we’re not yet ready to release specific dates or sessions, we simply want families to know that another Parent Prep event is in the works,” said Tami Santa, WCSD's coordinator of student well-being and mental health. “Feedback following last year’s workshops was so positive and supportive that we’re committed to overcoming the challenges before us and providing the experience virtually this year.”

The Second Annual Parent Prep workshop series will again focus on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and offer valuable information for parents of children in all grade levels.  SEL is the process of developing self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills necessary for school, work, and life success. According to the Committee for Children, people with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially.

Last year, Parent Prep participants learned hands-on strategies targeting self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Santa anticipates comparable session topics during this year’s virtual event.

“Additional details about this year’s sessions and presenters will be available within the next few weeks, and we’ll be sure to share that information with our families,” noted Santa. “I also would like to extend a special word of thanks to the Westerville Education Challenge for its continued involvement and support for bringing this event to our families and community.”
