The second part of the 9th annual Elementary Leadership Summit occurred on Friday, May 8, at Westerville North High School.  More than 140 third, fourth and fifth grade students from all Westerville elementary schools were in attendance.

Leadership participants spent the day hearing from local leaders, completing team building exercises, and sharing the results of each building’s service project.  Westerville North High School student leaders assisted youngsters with the day’s events.  “The participants of the Summit truly enjoyed spending time with the high school leaders,” stated Juliet Peoples, Coordinator of State and Federal Programs.  “The high school students served as exemplary role models.”

Westerville North High School volleyball coach Aaron Hastings and six senior team members spoke to the group about being part of something larger than yourself and the need to give back to the community.  Officer Justin Coleman, of the Columbus Police Department, encouraged participants to listen carefully and have courage as they become leaders.  Both guest speakers are graduates of the Westerville City Schools.

During the day, the Westerville North theater troupe engaged students in reenacting various fairytales.  The event concluded with a special performance by the Westerville North swing choir, the Notables.

This year’s Leadership Summit was made possible through generous donations from HR Imaging Partners, Inc. and i9 Sports.
