Westerville City School District Board of Education President Nancy Nestor-Baker today announced that the board will vote on a resolution to select Richard W. Bird to complete the unexpired term of Cindy Crowe, who last month announced her resignation from the Board effective May 19, 2014.
“After reviewing 11 applications and interviewing three finalists, we believe that Mr. Bird will bring a professional skill set and personal background to complement those already found on our Board,” Nestor-Baker said. “We look forward to welcoming him and continuing the critical work we have before us.”
Bird is the head of information security for Mettler-Toledo International, Inc., and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University. He also completed advanced studies in project management at George Washington University. Bird is a Veteran U.S. Army Airborne Paratrooper, member of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary and member of American Legion Post 171. He also brings Board experience with the Columbus Museum of Art and the Red Cross of Central Ohio.
“To be actively engaged as a team member on the Board to guide strategic and policymaking direction would be the best possible opportunity to see the positive effects of my participation on behalf of the constituents, students, families and faculty of Westerville,” Bird wrote. “A well run school district yields exponential returns for teachers in their ability to teach without unnecessary encumbrances, for students in the diversity of opportunities they have to learn and develop, and in the form of accountability and integrity in which taxpayer funds are managed.”
After the board approves his selection, Bird will be sworn into office during the Board of Education’s next regular meeting at 6 p.m. on June 9, 2014, in the district’s Early Learning Center, 936 Eastwind Drive.
