School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is Celebrated in Westerville

Each day Westerville’s school bus drivers safely deliver children to school, home, field trips and athletic events.  They are committed to providing safe, effective, efficient and healthy transportation for children in the district.  The Ohio Legislature designated Monday, May 5, 2014, as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.  The Westerville School’s Transportation Center hosted a pancake breakfast that morning for drivers, who gathered in the bus terminal to eat and enjoy each other’s company.  Westerville City Schools Superintendent John Kellogg shared some “fun facts” about the district’s Transportation Services:

  • School Bus, the Musical has gained local and national recognition;
  • The district’s First Time Riders program has also earned state and national accolades;
  • The average maintenance cost per mile continues to be 27 percent below the state average;
  • The partnerships between school bus drivers and Ohio Health have set the “standard” for the state prescribed Driver Physical Program;
  • Westerville’s fleet continues to be one of the “Environmentally Friendliest Fleets” across the country through anti-idling and clean emission programs; and
  • Our drivers participate in more than 15 hours of professional development program and training each year.
