May 5th is National Bike to School Day, which celebrates active commuting while building a sense of community and school spirit. The event also brings attention to the importance of creating safe routes to school. More than 60 percent of past Walk and Bike to School Day?organizers said their events led to policy or environmental changes in their communities.??
The National Center for Safe Routes to School, the coordinating agency for Walk and Bike to School Day, is committed to empowering communities to make walking and bicycling to school a safe, appealing choice for families.
The first National Walk to School Day was held in 1997 and the first-ever National Bike to School Day was celebrated in 2012. More information can be found here.
