The Westerville Education Foundation (WEF) has named three educators Teacher of the Month for October – Kimi Dodds, Whittier Elementary School; Katie Ensell, Hawthorne Elementary School; and Joe Clegg, Westerville North High School.

Dodds is described by her nominator as encouraging and inclusive.  She works with parents and students to address concerns and encourage a positive learning environment.  “Ms. Dodds had restored my faith in educators in Ohio just by finally listening to the concerns I have always had and had tried to discuss with other teachers in the past, but was dismissed and ignored,” said the nominator.  Dodds went above and beyond to help a student get caught up with classmates and also recommended the summer intervention program after transitioning from another school district.  “Even now, she’s only a phone call away.”  These measures greatly impacted the student in a positive way.

Ensell is described by her multiple nominators as incredible, patient, and dedicated to include everyone in the learning process.  “Parents get regular updates from the classroom and can use updates to encourage students at home,” the nominator explained.  She works with students one-on-one and presents topics in multiple ways for the different learning styles of each student.  “She is patient and genuinely loves teaching our children”, another nominator says.  Her passion extends into the community as she includes community volunteers in the classroom and works with local businesses to secure materials for the Hawthorne Creation Station

Clegg is described by his nominator as a leader who exemplifies The Warrior Way.  He is a friendly face for all of the students, teachers, and parents.  “He models respect, consistency, and is approachable by everyone,” says his nominator.  “I have witnessed him with not just his own students, being an encourager, but with almost every student that I have seen him encounter in the building, on the field, and in the gym.”  Joe consistently communicates accountability inclusion.  “Coach Clegg cultivates a genuine atmosphere of belonging.  He influences us to be important members of our Warrior Family.”  Each day, Joe is an example to both students and parent of living the golden rule.
