Chief Nuesse gives a fifth grade student an honorary police badge.
The new Girls on the Run group at Hawthorne Elementary School concluded its first season on May 18 with a community impact project – thanking the Minerva Park Police Department for supporting the school community. Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program for females in grades 3-8. The 10-week curriculum incorporates lessons that empower girls, who also train for a 5k run. Coaches for Hawthorne’s Girls on the Run are Bonnie Gourley, Madison Marcotte and Ann Keane.
Minerva Park Police Chief Kim Nuesse graciously spoke to the group about the importance of persistence, working hard and not allowing being told no to diminish dreams. She was given a basket of goodies to share with fellow officers, along with several hand-made thank you cards. Coincidentally, this is National Police Week, which honors law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
