Thirty-four pallets (2,040 boxes) of reading material and textbooks, along with 12 computer systems, are on their way to the Liberian Girls Guides headquarters in Paynesville, Liberia, thanks to the ongoing efforts of Westerville City Schools technology technician Zuulu Cooper. The material will benefit about 3,500 students in six urban and two rural schools. The Liberia Girls Guides (Girl Scouts) are partnering with LLF to distribute the books to local schools and help set up shelves in their libraries.
Cooper started the Libraries for Liberia Foundation several years ago to bring books to his impoverished homeland. He expressed appreciation to all the Westerville schools and individuals that donated books and to the teachers who have volunteered their time to this worthy cause, especially Don Ogle at Westerville Central High School and the Invisible Children volunteers. He also thanked the U.S. Military for making the shipping of the donation possible. Libraries for Liberia Foundation has suspended the collection of books until they find another storage facility. Cooper is also grateful to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for allowing his Foundation to use their storage facility for the past two years.
