To show support for Westerville teachers, staff and administrators, the Westerville Education Challenge (WEC) created more than 1,300 “rocks of support” that feature messages of encouragement for their work during the pandemic.

“The WEC felt that teachers and staff may be feeling low, frustrated, stressed and tired,” said WEC secretary Lauren Hoffman. “The rocks were made to show that we care and just wanted to give them a small token to show our support and gratitude for all they do for our students, parents and community.”

Two members of the group — Stephanie Martin, a retired Westerville Central High School teacher, and Linda Weiler, a Westerville parent — came up with the idea and several WEC members volunteered to hand-paint the rocks for teachers and staff in every building. The rocks were distributed to most buildings last month.
