Westerville North Cheerleading is collecting pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes as part of a fundraising drive for training and equipment needs for their competition and sideline teams. The shoe drive runs through Nov. 30.

Westerville North Cheerleading is working with Funds2Orgs, which will provide funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs to create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.

"We are excited about our shoe drive," NHS Cheer Head Coach Megan Hoover said. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for our upcoming competition and basketball season, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone.”

Those interested can donate shoes at a public drop-off 2-4 p.m. Nov. 7 at Westerville North. Contact Hoover at hoovr.megn@gmail.com if you need to arrange for pick up or drop outside of this collection date.
