The Alpha Group’s signature Zoom Duck Derby fundraiser has gone virtual on Facebook Live this year due to COVID-19 considerations.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2020. Simply follow The Alpha Group on Facebook, then sit back, relax, and watch 5,000 rubber ducks racing down Zoombezi Bay Water Park’s lazy river! Anyone interested in supporting this cause, which also directly benefits Westerville City School District (WCSD) students, is invited to support the WCSD Team. Adopt a rubber duck for only $5 and your lucky duck gives you a chance to win one of 10 prizes, including $1,500 for the first-place duck, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third.

Additional information about the event and package options available for purchase can be found at the Zoom Duck Derby web page. Proceeds from this event help support various programs and services that benefit WCSD students, as well as area residents with disabilities. Founded in 1970, The Alpha Group continues to provide programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities in Delaware County. As a result of its steady growth over the years, including the recent opening of a new location within WCSD boundaries, the non-profit organization also provides its services in 11 surrounding counties.

WCSD benefits from a partnership with The Alpha Group, through the Vocational Advisory Program. Alpha's transition coordinator meets weekly with students who are differently-abled at each of the district’s high schools. They discuss career exploration, the type of work they would like to do in the future, and practice job skills. Throughout the semester, local community employers come to the schools to mentor students and perform "mock interviews" to give them the chance to practice interview skills. The Alpha Group’s Westerville location provides a space for its community employment and Adult Day Service divisions, as well as serving as a hub for its transportation fleet.
