The Hanby Hawk (a.k.a. Principal Monica Brown) and top fundraisers paraded through Uptown on February 22 to claim prizes donated by generous area businesses.

How is it that one of Westerville’s smallest schools – Hanby Elementary – won (for the second year in a row) the Community Bowl-A-Thon Principal’s Challenge by raising the most money for charity?  The secret might be found in the Hanby Hawk mascot costume.  And Principal Monica Brown’s willingness to wear it while parading around Uptown with top fundraising students.

Hanby conducted a Classroom Cash & Coin Challenge from February 13 – 15 in order to benefit the Westerville Scholarship Foundation, the Westerville Education Foundation and the Westerville Symphony.  Classrooms competed to see who could bring in the most cash and businesses rewarded the winners with pizza and a drink from Cucinova; a treat bag from Shirley’s Popcorn; and a mini ice cream desert from Rollie’s.  The school raised more than $1,000.
