The Westerville City School District has earned its fifth consecutive Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction. It was given for excellence in financial reporting for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended 2016. Westerville Schools received a certificate that says, in part, “Your exemplary reporting serves as the standard for clean, accountable government, representing the highest level of service to Ohioans.”
The Auditor of State Award with Distinction is given to those entities that file an annual CAFR and timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP, as well as receive a “clean” audit report. A “clean” audit report means the financial audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or any questioned costs.
Auditor of State Dave Yost wrote, “Clean and accurate record-keeping are the foundation for good government, and the taxpayers can take pride in your commitment to accountability.”
Treasurer Bart Griffith credited the dedicated members of the Treasurer’s office as well as all of the staff in the district who receive money, create purchase orders and safeguard taxpayer money. “Besides the Treasurer’s office, we have secretaries, food service staff, teachers, principals, administrators, club and activity advisors, athletics and many more staff who work throughout the year to make sure the business side of the district follows the policies and procedures set by the Board of Education,” he said.
