It certainly won’t be your typical design competition, but the creations that will emerge from the upcoming Trash to Fashion contest will likely generate lots of buzz around the water cooler. Westerville City Schools librarians have partnered with the Arts Council of Westerville and Westerville Partners for Education to challenge students to come up with clothing made from trash. Judges will consider creativity, originality and quality of design. They will be looking for original, “out of the box” ideas and garments using recyclable materials, along with pieces that demand attention and provoke thought.
The contest is voluntary and open to all students in the Westerville City School District. Each participating school will select two winning designs to enter in the district finale, which will be held at the Nationwide Children’s Starry Night event on Sunday, April 10, at Westerville North High School. Prizes will be awarded to winners at each level (elementary, middle and high school).
