The Westerville City Schools Board of Education and Superintendent John Kellogg recognized three groups of individuals during the March 12 Regular Session. For receiving Fouse awards at the Martin Luther King, Jr. breakfast celebration in January, students Olivia Haines (Fouse Elementary), Kate Clark (Walnut Springs Middle School) and Jada Walls (Westerville South High School) were honored. For earning the 2018 Alston Award, Westerville City Schools ESL Parent Liaison Lula Abdul Mohamed Barnes was recognized. All were lauded for exemplifying characteristics demonstrated by Dr. King.
Westerville South High School music instructor John Laswell received accolades as winner of the Columbus Symphony’s 2018 Secondary Music Educator Award. He was honored for making a difference in the community through dedication to music education and promotion of a greater understanding of and appreciation for the art form.
Walnut Springs speech pathologist Jill Shaffer was recognized for having received the Westerville Civitan Club’s first-ever Special Education Professional Award. She was cited for her commitment, professionalism and dedication to serving students with disabilities.
