Valentine parties at Fouse Elementary School took on a different twist this year.  Instead of just exchanging cards and candy hearts, staff and students embraced the campaign, Giving of the Heart.  Each classroom made projects on February 10 that were given away to a number of charities and organizations in order to benefit others and spread holiday cheer on Valentine’s Day.  One group of first graders, for example, made rice-filled heating pads for residents at Feridean Commons.  Some second graders made activity bags for hospitalized kids.  Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Sam Bish Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, the Ronald McDonald House, Westerville Special Olympics, the Genoa Township Police Department, the Star House, RESCUEDOhio, and the Westerville Area Resource Ministry were just some of the organizations that benefited from school wide classroom projects.  Giving of the Heart was such a successful and enjoyable undertaking, it will likely become an annual tradition at Fouse Elementary school.
