Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District representative Linda Pettit took Emerson third graders on a fascinating journey through a Soil Tunnel.

Third grade students at Emerson Elementary got a great look at the soil beneath the surface on Tuesday morning, October 9, but they did not get a speck of dirt on them.  Linda Pettit of the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District assembled a Soil Tunnel in the basement of the school.  The realistically painted canvas mural she set up depicts soil layers and plant roots.  The ingredients, textures, properties and importance of soil were discussed.
