Students conceptualized and designed original works of art that were laser-cut into Styrofoam pumpkins, which will be used at the Community Pumpkin Glow event.
Westerville City Schools gratefully accepted a generous donation of $1,805 from Neighborhood Bridges to support partial scholarships to offset student registration for the district’s annual Summer Learning Opportunities Program. These funds more than doubled last year’s gift. This year’s contribution helped 26 pupils attend classes. Dr. Scott Ebbrecht, Director of Assessment and Alternative Education Services stated, “We are blessed to live in a community that has an organization like Neighborhood Bridges that can rally others when a genuine need is identified. We truly value Rick Bannister’s advocacy for our school district, and celebrate his continued, unrelenting passion to serve others.”
Part of the Middle School Summer Learning Opportunities Program experience this year included an integral partnership with the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department. Using equipment in The Shop at Westerville North High School, students conceptualized and designed original works of art using a computer program (CorelDRAW), which were laser-cut into Styrofoam pumpkins in preparation for a Community Pumpkin Glow event. This meaningful activity incorporated pupils learning across all content areas through a STEAM instructional framework (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics).
