On Thursday, March 22, students at Emerson Elementary Magnet School presented an evening of international music and inspiring art projects for their fellow classmates, teachers, and parents. First through fifth graders performed traditional music from countries around the globe with guidance from their music teacher, Mary-Rebekah Fortman.  The evening began with a song called Start with Hello, which included greetings from around the world.  Pupils also played a variety of instruments and acted out a folk tale.  Fifth graders gave a highly anticipated performance with traditional African drums, which has become an Emerson tradition.  Art teacher Juls Rathje organized the student art show for this event with artist selections that included three and four dimensional artworks, and pieces in the style of Dale Chihuly, an American glass artist.  Local food trucks from Cazuela’s Grill, Holy Crepes and Schmidt’s provided cuisine from a variety of cultures as well.  It was an enjoyable evening for all who attended.
