Each year, students look forward to the Pi Day Memorization contest at Emerson Elementary School.  Participants from first through fifth grade competed for a coveted Pi Day t-shirt.  This year’s top grade level winners were first grader Aaron Wilson, second grader A.J. Bresnahan, third grader Mason Wu, fourth grader Shrey Shyamalan, and fifth grader Sammy Gurgiolo. Gurgiolo was the school’s top scorer, having memorized 181 digits of Pi.  Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of Pi (π).
