In February, Jennifer Findell’s class of gifted fifth graders traveled from Emerson Elementary to Walnut Springs in order to participate in the Middle School Science Fair.  Eight Emerson projects, the work of 10 students, were ranked Superior at that event.  Five of those students accepted the challenge to compete in the District Seven Science Day competition held at Columbus State in March.

At the District Science Day, the work of one student was ranked excellent, while the other four projects were ranked Superior again.  Congratulations go to Anna Whiting, Alyssa B., Nicholas Shoaf, Carter McCrea, and Jackson Congrove for their strong showing at the event.  Emerson received honors for achieving an average rating of Superior.

In addition to a Superior rating, Shoaf also received an award sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for his project studying the effect of weight distribution on speed of a pine box derby car.

Students whose projects were ranked Superior now qualify to complete at the Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day, which will be held at The Ohio State University on May 16.
