January is School Board Recognition Month

Westerville City Schools joins more than 700 school districts throughout Ohio to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month. 

Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board members are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools. 

At the Jan. 11 school board organizational and regular meeting, Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg and Treasurer Nicole Marshall recognized the school board with a proclamation dedicating January 2021 as School Board Recognition Month. Board members were also honored in a video presentation created by the Superintendent’s Office. Westerville Mayor Kathy Cocuzzi recognized the school board with a city proclamation, declaring January 2021 as School Board Recognition Month.

As part of the proclamation, Cocuzzi encouraged all citizens to join her in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school board members and “in working with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today’s and tomorrow’s children.”

Westerville Board of Education members are Jennifer Aultman, Tracy Davidson, Rev. Vaughn Bell, Dr. Nancy Nestor-Baker, and Rev. Rick Vilardo.  

During Monday’s meeting, Rev. Bell was elected president and Dr. Nestor-Baker was elected vice president.
