The future opening of a new elementary and a new middle school in the Westerville City School District has created a need for the realignment of attendance boundaries at those instructional levels. Two committees, one to develop elementary boundaries and one to develop middle school boundaries, will begin their work in February 2020.

“In addition to developing attendance boundaries for those new schools, we’ll also be making some adjustments to a few existing boundaries to address overcrowding, enrollment growth, and capacity issues,” said Dr. John Kellogg, superintendent. “High school boundaries will remain the same, so all of this work will focus only on elementary and middle school attendance areas.”

Committees will issue periodic progress reports to the Board of Education and public. Beginning in May 2020, members of the public will have several opportunities to review and provide feedback on draft attendance boundary options. This feedback will be used to inform committee members’ continuing efforts as they work toward a goal of presenting final recommendations to the Board in October 2020.

Meetings of the Board-appointed elementary and middle school boundary committees will conform to all applicable provisions of the Sunshine Law. Meetings will begin at 6 p.m. in the district’s Early Learning Center, 936 Eastwind Dr., according to the following schedule:

  • Kick-off Meeting, February 18, 2020;
  • First working meeting, March 2, 2020; Second working meeting, March 16, 2020; Third working meeting, March 30, 2020;
  • Wrap-up meeting, April 8, 2020.

Public gallery walks of draft boundary options are scheduled as follows:

  • May 6, 2020, Westerville North HS, 950 County Line Road, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.;
  • June 3, 2020, Westerville Central HS, 7118 Mount Royal Ave., 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.;
