Students in third through eighth grade, along with their families, are invited to attend the upcoming African American Read-In on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Blendon Middle School, 223 S. Otterbein Ave. Sign-in for the free event begins at 8:30 a.m. and activities take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Space is limited and will fill up fast, so any families planning to attend are asked to RSVP by February 21 to RutherfL@westerville.k12.oh.us or RievesL@westerville.k12.oh.us.

The African American Read-In is one of many Black History Month activities occurring across the district this February. The event will feature the works of African-American female poets, as well as books written or illustrated by African-Americans. Those in attendance will hear from guest readers and children will have an opportunity to create their own original works of prose. The event also features a free book raffle and items for sale from various vendors.

The African American Read-In was established in 1990 courtesy of the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English.
