The Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual conservation poster contest has concluded, and three Westerville City Schools students earned accolades. Alcott Elementary pupil Scarlett Soungpradith won top honors in the Grade 2-3 category, and Alcott’s Evelyn Fossel took second place in the same group. Emerson’s Cristian Campese came in third in Grade 4-8. This year, 16 schools in eight districts registered with nearly 1,000 students competing from grades K-12. The 2019 theme was Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper, reminding everyone that healthy soils result in healthy food and a healthy you – don’t treat soil like dirt! To further the conservation message, youngsters were asked again this year to draw their posters on paper that had been previously used on one side. Winning students will be recognized at an awards ceremony to be held in the Education Building Auditorium at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Saturday, April 27.
