Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund Awards $3,082 in Grants

The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation has announced the recipients of 10 grant awards totaling $3,082 to Westerville City Schools personnel for applications submitted this spring.  Recipients are:

  • Maria Soisson, classroom teacher, Walnut Springs Middle School, $150 for the purchase of books and other materials for Team Building Days at the beginning of each math chapter.
  • Karen Lee, instructional coach, Early Learning Center, $228 for the purchase of teacher’s manuals for the “Visualizing and Verbalizing” program, to be used by teachers of students with autism.
  • Amanda Chiles, parent mentor, Wilder Elementary, $200 to pay for childcare and materials to encourage attendance at meetings for parents of students with disabilities.
  • Jean Trimble, librarian, Walnut Springs Middle School, $345 for the purchase of robotics kits so students can learn coding.
  • Monica Brown, principal (for Ambar Loya, student), Hanby Magnet Elementary School, $300 for Madcap Puppet Theatre Workshop for the second grade classroom.
  • Maggie Huling, MD classroom teacher, Genoa Middle School, $350 for the purchase of materials to begin “Jaguar Java” coffee service, allowing practice in vocational skills for students with multiple disabilities.
  • Marie Kimchi, instructional coach, Emerson Elementary, $459 for the purchase of books for use by third grade students as part of a unit on cultural diversity.
  • Meghan Davis, ESL paraprofessional, Robert Frost Elementary School, $500 for the purchase of robotics kits as part of a unit combining robotics programming and map skills.
  • Katie Wirthlin, art teacher, McVay Elementary, $300 for the purchase of books about contemporary artists, at a range of reading levels.
  • Tom Markle, guidance counselor, Walnut Springs Middle School, $250 for the purchase of screen printing supplies to be used by students in the Boys to Mentor leadership program.
