J. Scott Savage inspires Annehurst students with the story of Alexandra Scott, who started Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Author J. Scott Savage visited Alcott and Annehurst Elementary Schools on Wednesday, October 21, for a fun and interactive presentation that engaged students at both schools.  His dynamic presentation was entitled The Power of Creativity.  He shared stories of other kids who have changed the world with their ideas.  He also taught pupils how to come up with an amazing story idea in less than five minutes using a protagonist (hero), a goal, three obstacles, and consequences of success and failure.  At each school he had four participants (one hero and three obstacles) join him onstage to create a story.  He also encouraged students not to give up on their ideas, sharing that J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter was rejected 11 times before a publisher said yes!

Savage is the author of the Farworld and Case File 13 middle grade series.  He is touring the country, promoting his new series The Mysteries of Cove: Fires of Invention.  His visit was sponsored by Shadow Mountain Publishing and Barnes & Noble Bookstores.
