Students and teachers benefited from the expertise of Tony Zilincik, who conducted a Tuba/Baritone Workshop at Blendon Middle School on October 17.

Learning didn’t stop in the Westerville City School District on Central OEA/NEA Day (October 17), when a variety of classes and workshops were offered including a special one at Blendon Middle School.  Tony Zilincik, Associate Professor of Music at Capital University, conducted a Tuba/Baritone Workshop from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  Students and teachers from all Westerville middle and high schools were invited to attend for no cost, and they were asked to bring their instruments, music and questions.  Music teacher Amy Levine hosted and coordinated the event.

Zilincik teaches tuba, composition and theory at Capital, and he also directs the brass choir and Capital Thunder, the university’s tuba/euphonium ensemble.  He is the principal tuba for the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra and maintains a large private low brass studio.  Zilincik is tubist in the Capital Brass brass quintet (the faculty quintet), the Cathedral Brass brass quintet at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, and is the director and coordinator of Merry TUBACHRISTMAS Columbus.  He is also the E-flat tuba soloist with the Brass Band of Columbus and former music director of the Central Ohio Brass Band.  He is an active freelance soloist and conductor and has composed many pieces that have been performed in the U.S. and Europe.

“It was an honor to have a musician of Tony’s caliber visit our school district,” said Levine.  “He is a wealth of knowledge and experience.”
