Head-Start Preschool Students Sought for New Central College Location

The Child Development Council of Franklin County Inc. is now enrolling Head-Start preschool students for the 2014-15 school year at its new Westerville Central College location.  Head-Start is an early learning program for preschool aged children of families in poverty, designed to promote school readiness and meet each child’s emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.  Central College, formerly a magnet school, is located at 825 South Sunbury Road.  Half-day classes for children ages 3-5 are being offered at no cost.  For further information, please call 614/797-7043. 

Services offered to children and families include:

  • Support and community referrals;
  • Disability services;
  • Assistance with job placement;
  • Nutritious meals;
  • Health screenings; and
  • School readiness activities.

Documents needed at the time of enrollment are:  Birth certificate; income verification (i.e. pay stub, OWF letter or letter from employer); current immunization record, social security number; and health insurance information. 

Head-Start began in 1965 as part of President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty.  Today, it has evolved into a half-day program throughout the school year serving more than 929,000 children nationwide.
