Scott Gray, a Psychology and Advanced Placement World History teacher at Westerville North High School, has been named Educator of the Year by the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was recognized at the Westerville City Schools Board of Education Meeting on Monday evening, September 22.
Gray received a plaque from Cliff Riley, President of the Buckeye State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America; and Joseph A. Jennings III, National Service Representative, Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. Jennings nominated Gray for the award because of his awareness and communication about issues that veterans face. The plaque commended Gray for his “vision of building young America.” Gray has been a teacher for 35 years, and has worked in Westerville since 1987. He holds two Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University, in Education and School Guidance.
Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is the nation’s only congressionally chartered veterans’ service organization dedicated to the needs of Vietnam-era veterans and their families. VVA’s founding principle is, “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.” Its goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans.
